About the Group
An Environment Agency led group looking at their approach to some of the remaining requirements of the Landfill Directive. The group includes operators, producers, Defra, WAG and DTI.
The sub-group has been looking at the two provisions due on 31 October 2007 - the pre-treatment of waste going to non-hazardous landfills, and the ban on liquid wastes at non-hazardous landfills.
On pre-treatment, the sub-group has been producing draft guidance to supplement the Agency "Guidance for waste destined for destined for disposal in landfills". On the liquid ban, the intention is to shortly produce a scoping report dealing with waste types and quantities, alternative management options, problem waste types etc.
